Summer Meals for Children

Provided by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action Regional Food Center with the Ohio Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Meals are walk-in and held Monday-Friday (with pizza served on Fridays) at the times and locations listed below. Children must eat at the feeding site (no carry-out). Contact Nancy Henderson at the Regional Food Center (1-800-385-6813) for additional information about the following feeding sites. Eligibility for these meals is limited to children up to 18 years and adults 19-21 years with disabilities.

Nutrition Sites for Older Adults
Provided by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action

Lunch for adults 60 years and older. Reservation required: call 1-800-385-6813 to reserve Monday-Friday from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; call by 8:30 am for same day lunch. Lunch is served Monday-Friday at the following locations:

Athens County Children Services Peanut Butter and Jelly Project
Athens County Children Services provides children in the Alexander, Athens City, Federal Hocking, Nelsonville-York, and Trimble school districts who benefit from free or reduced price breakfast and lunch programs during the school year with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches throughout the Summer. Contact your child's school administration for information on how to enroll for this program. For further details, check online.

Donations of unopened jars of peanut butter and jelly and financial donations (to purchase sandwich bread) are accepted to support the project. Donations may be dropped off with receptionist at Children Services Building 22 at 18 Stony Brook Drive in Athens during business hours. Cash donations will also be accepted, or checks made out to “Athens
County Children Services” with “Peanut Butter and Jelly (or PBJ) Project” written in the note section.

 

Most Athens county banks and credit unions will also be accepting donations of unopened jars of peanut butter and jelly for the program between May 12-30 during business hours (contact your local bank for hours of operation).

 

COAD Intergenerational Feeding Program

The COAD/RSVP volunteer program is hosting summer reading and free lunch programs in southeastern Ohio (2 sites in Athens County). Children Kindergarten through 13 are welcome. Special books, related activities, outdoor activities, and free lunch, with senior citizens sharing the reading and the fun. Please register by calling COAD at 740-594-8499 and ask for the Senior Programs Division.
