Information For Voters

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 - commonly referred to as the “motor voter law” - became effective on Jan. 1, 1995. One purpose of this Act was “to establish procedures...[to] increase the number of eligible citizens who register to vote” by, among other things, mandating that voter registration opportunities be provided at certain designated state agencies, including “all offices in the state that provide public assistance.”

This means you may register to vote with Athens County Department of Job and Family Services. A voter registration form, an absentee ballot application and a voter registration update form will accompany any application for assistance through our agency.
